My First Baking over a Campfire

Olivia became inspired when getting ready to make S'mores. She decided to try making chocolate covered pretzels over a campfire! She put a pretzel in foil, laid chocolate next to it, and wrapped it up. She then set it 'next' to the fire to warm slowly. The chocolate melted all over the pretzel rod. She opened the foil, let it sit (to allow for drying), and then ate it! She said it was delicious and we should try strawberries next time!

Baking with Nana

Last week, O spent the entire week with Nana. She was so excited - because Nana BAKES! (Mommy doesn't as much!)

When she returned home, she brought with her:

puff pastry butterfly cookies
homemade strawberry pie

She was so proud of her creations and can't wait to visit Nana again!

My First Open House - Kindergarten

Today, Olivia and I went to an Open House for Kindergarten.
After spending a couple of hours visiting her future classroom and teachers - we came home to tell daddy and Samantha all about it! She was very excited that she will be able to cook/bake next year - and she was impressed that she might even get to do some gymnastics (if there is room!)

Maybe we can get this blog updated before next year with all the rest of the baking she's done this year:
brownies
chocolate chip cookies
cupcakes
cheesecakes
cherry pie
sugar cookies
turtle brownies

She is also looking forward to spending a week or so with Nana - who is planning an entire week of baking with her!

Interesting historical note: Olivia's great, great grandfather was a baker - he invented the Tell City Pretzel.

My First Rice Krispies Recipe

We made Rice Krispie Treats together, today. It was a sticky mess, but they turned out wonderful. Lets see what Olivia thinks!

M: What did we make today?

O: Rice Krispie Treats

M: What did we have to do?

O; Turn on the slow oven, and we had to put butter in (the pot), then marshmallows, and we had to mix it (until) it melted.

M: Then what?

O: We put the cereal in and then mommy gave me a spoon.

M: to do what?

O: To stir the cereal

M: Then we poured the mixture into what?

O: a pan - and then you put a lid on it.

M: Did you get a taste of the treats, yet?

O: Yes.

M: Are they any good? Do you want any?

O: Yes. Yes!

M: Lets go get 'em!!!!

My First Tea Party and Sugar Cookie Recipe

For Olivia's fifth birthday, we had an Alice in Wonderland Tea Party!

My First Gingerbread House

This is the gingerbread house that Olivia helped make with her cousins and her sister. She couldn't wait to "eat" it - she says she is the "sugar monster" - oh, man!

My First Meatballs

Olivia made meatballs with her nana when she was three years old - ever since that experience, she has enjoyed cooking and baking. She just can't wait to do more! See her first meatballs at the bottom of this page or under "gallery" -
